Question

Calculate the number of moles present in 32 g of Sulphur dioxide?

Open in App
Solution

  • The gram molecular mass or molar mass is defined as the molecular mass of a mole of a substance expressed in grams.
  • Number of moles can be calculated by the equation

Number of moles = GivenmassofthesubstanceMolecularweightofthesubstance

  • To find the number of moles present in 32g of Sulphur dioxide(SO2)

The given mass of Sulphur dioxide(SO2) = 32g

Molecular weight of Sulphur dioxide(SO2) = Molecular weight of Sulphur(S) + Molecular weight of Oxygen(O2)

= 32 + (2×16)

= 64 g/mol.

Therefore, number of moles present in 32g of SO2 = 3264 = 0.5 moles.

Hence, number of moles present in 32g of SO2 is 0.5moles.
