Question

Calculate the number of moles present in:

34 g of ammonia

Open in App
Solution

Given: Weight of ammonia= 34 g

Formula to calculate number of moles is:

Numberofmoles=GivenweightofthesubstanceMolarmassofthesubstance

Step-1: Calculate the Gram molecular weight of Ammonia (NH3)

Gram molecular weight of Ammonia= Gram atomic weight of Nitrogen+ 3(Gram atomic weight of Hydrogen)

Gram molecular weight of Ammonia= 14+3(1)

Gram molecular weight of Ammonia= 17 g mol-1

Step-2: Calculate the number of moles

By substituting the values in the above formula

Numberofmoles=3417=21=2

Therefore, the number of moles present in 34 g of ammonia is 2 mol.
