Question

Calculate the pressure at a depth of 50m below the surface of sea. The density of sea water is 1024 kgm3.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given that:

Depth(h) = 50m

The density of seawater(d) = 1024kgm3

Step 2: Calculation of the pressure at the given depth:

Pressure at a depth is given by,

P=depth(h)×density(d)×Accelerationduetogravity(g)

Putting the values we get;

P=50m×1024kgm3×10ms2

P=500×1024

P=512000

P=5.12×105Pa

Thus,

The pressure at given depth is 5.12×105Pa .
