Calculate the resistance between the points X and Y in the network shown below.

We can redraw the given circuit as shown in Fig (i). The resistors of 3Ω and 2Ω are in series. Therefore, their equivalent resistance
=3+2=5Ω

Now, the resistors of 5Ω,1Ω and 5Ω are parallel as shown in Fig. (ii).
Therefore, their equivalent resistance :
1R=15+1+15=1+5+15=75
Or R=57=0.71Ω
Hence, the resistance between X and Y is 0.71Ω.
