Question

Calculate the resultant molarity of following:
1500ml 1M HCl + 18.25g HCl

Open in App
Solution

Dear student
Given M1 = 1M
V1= 1500mL

Given second solution is 18.25g
Density of HCl is 1.18g/mL
we know Density = mass/volume
1.18 = 18.25/volume
volume = 18.25/1.18
= 15.47mL

Thus V2= 15.47mL
M2 =?

Using the formula M1V1= M2V2 we get
1 x 1500 = M2 x 15.47
M2 = 1500/15.47 = 96.9M

Now to calculate the resultant molarity
M = M1V1 + M2V2/ M1+ M2
= 1500+ 1500.12/ 1+ 96.9
= 30.64M
