Calculate the water pressure and the thrust at the bottom of a tank whose length, width and the depth are $2 m, 1.5 m a n d 1 m$ respectively. Density of water is $1000 k g m^{- 3}$ .

Pressure $(P)$ at the bottom of the tank is given by $P = h d g$
$= 1 m \times 1000 k g \times 9.8 m s^{- 2} = 9800 N m^{- 2}$
Surface area at the bottom of the tank $= 2 m \times 1.5 m = 3 m^{2}$
$∴ T h r u s t a t t h e b o t t o m o f t h e t a n k = f o r c e \times a r e a$
$= 9800 N m^{- 2} \times 3 m^{2} = 29, 400 N$ .
