Question

Can a body have a constant speed but a varying velocity? Give an example.

Solution

  1. In a uniform circular motion, the body rotates around a point at a constant speed.
  2. But as the direction of the motion is constantly changing, the velocity also changes.
  3. As velocity is a vector quantity which means it is described using both magnitude and direction.
  4. If velocity changes, there will be an acceleration but the body in the motion is having a constant speed.

Hence, Yes an object can have a constant speed but a changing velocity.
