Question

Can a displacement reaction be also a redox reaction?

Open in App
Solution

Yes, a displacement reaction can be a redox reaction.

Example:

This is a displacement reaction in which copper metal is displaced by zinc also CuSO4 reduces the Cu and Zn oxidises to ZnSO4.

Zn (s) + CuSO4 (aq) → ZnSO4 (aq) + Cu (s)

Zinc Copper sulphate Zinc sulphate Copper

Here Zn is oxidised act as reducing agent and CuSO4 is reduced act as oxidising agent.
