Can thalassemia be cured?

Open in App
Solution

Thalassemia

  1. It is a blood disorder where the individual has less haemoglobin than normal.
  2. It is a hereditary disease that can be passed from parents to offspring
  3. Due to the low concentration of haemoglobin, it causes anaemia and so less oxygen is distributed throughout the body.
  4. Mild thalassemia does not usually require treatment but in severe cases, bone marrow transplant and stem cell treatment are the only options to treat thalassemia.
