Can wheat and sand be separated by winnowing?

A mixture of sand and wheat can be separated by sieving.
Sieving allows the smaller particles to pass through the small holes of the sieve, while bigger particles remain on the sieve.

Whereas, winnowing is the method of separating lighter particles of husk from the heavier seeds of the wheat.
