Solution
(b) Preparation of glucose from starch: Starch is boiled with dil sulphuric acid at 393 K under pressure. It is hydrolysed to give glucose. (C6H10O5)n( starch)+nH2OdilH2SO4−−−−−−−−→393K,2−3atmnC6H12O6( glucose ) (c) Uses of Carbohydrates: (i) They are important source of chemical energy for living organisms. (ii) They are important constituents of supporting tissues in plants. e.g cellulose found in wood, cotton, flex etc.
