Preparation of glucose from starch:
Starch is boiled with dil sulphuric acid at 393 K under pressure. It is hydrolysed to give glucose.
$(C_{6} H_{10} O_{5})_{n} ( starch) + n H_{2} O d i l H_{2} S O_{4} - ------- \to 393 K, 2 - 3 a t m n C_{6} H_{12} O_{6} ( glucose )$
(c) Uses of Carbohydrates:
(i) They are important source of chemical energy for living organisms.
(ii) They are important constituents of supporting tissues in plants. e.g cellulose found in wood, cotton, flex etc.
