Preparation of glucose from starch:
Starch is boiled with dil sulphuric acid at 393 K under pressure. It is hydrolysed to give glucose.

(c) Uses of Carbohydrates:
(i) They are important source of chemical energy for living organisms.
(ii) They are important constituents of supporting tissues in plants. e.g cellulose found in wood, cotton, flex etc.
