Question

Car A of mass 1500 kg moving of a velocity of 25 metre per second colloid another car B of mass1000 kg moving at a speed of 15 metre per second. After collision the velocity of car A 20 metre per second car B?

Solution

Mass of car A m1= 1500kg

Mass of car B m2=1000kg

Velocity of car A before collision u1=25m/s

Velocity of car B before collision u2=15m/s

Velocity of car A after collision v1=20m/s

Velocity of car B after collision v2=?

Formula, Law of conservation of momentum

m1u1+m2u2= m1v1+m2+v2

1500×25+1000×15= 1500×20+1000×v2

37500+15000=30000+1000v2

52500=30000+1000v2

52500-3000=1000v2

22500=1000v2

22500/1000=v2

v2= 22.5m/s

So the velocity of car B is 22.5m/s
