The three reactions are as :
C(s)+O2CO2 .....(i)
2C(s)+O22CO2 .....(ii)
2CO+O22CO2 .....(iii)
Below 983 K reaction 2CO+O22CO2 is more favored due to more negative ΔG value thus CO is better reducing agent than carbon.
Above 983 K, reaction 2C(s)+O22CO has more negative ΔG than oxidation of CO to CO2, so carbon will be better reducing agent.
