The cell wall is said to be freely permeable as it allows all substances to pass through it (there's a size exclusion which is 30-60 kDa, kilodalton - the unit of mass).

An impermeable layer (such as cork cells lined with suberin) does not allow any molecules to pass through it.

A semi permeable barrier or a differentially permeable membrane allows some molecules to pass through and restricts other molecules. Water molecules pass through the differentially permeable membrane always.
