Carbylamine reaction is used for test of primary amines.
In this reaction, the primary amine is heated with CHCl3 and KOH to form isocyanide. Formation of isocynaide is indicated by the obnoxious smell. This confirms the presence of primary amino group.

RNH2+CHCl3+3KOHRNC+3KCl+3H2O
