When 1-Nitroethene, CH2=CHNO2, is reacted with hydrogen bromide (HBr), the product formed is BrCH2CH2NO2.

This reaction does not follow Markovnikov addition .
Due to the presence of the nitro group , the positive charge is developed on the second carbon. So, the bromide ion goes for the second carbon and the hydrogen cation goes to the first carbon attached to the nitro group .
