Let chalk contains $10 x$ calcium, $3 x$ carbon and $12 x$ oxygen.

Then percentage of carbon in the chalk $= \frac{3 x}{10 x + 3 x + 12 x} \times 100$
$= \frac{3 x}{25 x} \times 100$
