Solution

Answer: (b) Cl+

In this reaction, AlCl3 is a catalyst which activate the chlorine molecule to show heterolytic cleavage. AlCl3 is electron deficient molecule and form [AlCl4] and Cl+ when reacts with Cl2. This Cl+ electrophile attacks on electron rich benzene ring.

AlCl3+Cl2[AlCl4]+Cl+
