Insulin helps in the regulation of glucose homeostasis. Insulin acts mainly on hepatocytes and adipocytes cells and enhances cellular glucose uptake and utilization. This leads to rapid movement of glucose from the blood to hepatocytes and adipocytes resulting in decreased blood glucose levels (hypoglycemia).
Glucagon acts mainly on the liver cells and stimulates glycogenolysis resulting in increased blood sugar (hyperglycemia).
