Composting is defined as the biological decomposition of organic wastes with the help of microorganisms such as fungi, bacteria etc. When the composting is carried out with the help of worms such as earthworms, red wigglers, white worms etc., it is called vermicomposting. Whereas in the method called incineration, the waste materials are burnt at a very high temperature, this leads to the generation of harmful gases into the atmosphere. Also, in landfill method of waste disposal, the waste materials are dumped at a particular location or site, which is not a hygienic method of waste disposal.
