Solution

The hardness of water:

Temporary hardness of waterPermanent hardness of water
  • The temporary hardness of water is due to the presence of dissolved bicarbonates of magnesium in it.
  • Temporary hardness can be easily removed by boiling.
  • The permanent hardness of water is due to the presence of dissolved sulphates and chlorides of magnesium and calcium in it.
  • Permanent hardness can be removed by adding washing soda or sodium carbonate.

Therefore, Magnesium bicarbonate is an odd one because it is responsible for temporary hardness while all others are responsible for the permanent hardness of the water.
