Solution

The correct option is C The number of ovules in papaya and mango is one

Since some plants like mango are uniovulate (have one ovule), they have one seed whereas fruits like papaya, watermelon have many ovules, and hence after the ovary matures into a fruit. The ovules will turn into seeds and hence the fruits will have many seeds.

The gynoecium represents the female reproductive part of the flower. It is made up of units called carpels. Each carpel is made up of the stigma, the style and the ovary.

Syncarpous ovary is a compound ovary which is formed of fused ovaries or fused carpels. Apocarpous is when the carpels are free from one another.

Ovule is present at the basal part of carpel and attached to placenta.
