Connective tissue proper

It is classified into two types :

  1. Loose connective tissue.
  2. Dense connective tissue.

Loose Connective Tissue :

  1. The loose connective tissue consists of more matrix and fewer fibers.
  2. It includes areolar tissue and adipose tissue.

Areolar tissue:

  1. The areolar tissue is a loose and cellular connective tissue.
  2. It consists of a matrix having two kinds of fibers, namely White collagen fibers and Yellow elastin fibers.
  3. There are varying types of irregular cells such as fibroblasts and macrophages seen scattered in the matrix.

Adipose tissue

  1. The adipose tissue is a specialized tissue that stores fat.
  2. The cells of the adipose tissue are filled with fat globules called adipocytes.
  3. Each cell is round or oval in shape containing a large droplet of fat and a peripheral cytoplasm with the nucleus at one end.
  4. The fat cells are arranged in lobules and serve as an insulating layer for the body.

Dense Connective Tissue :

  1. The dense connective tissue is a fibrous connective tissue that consists of less matrix and more fibers.
  2. It has densely packed fibers and cells.
  3. It includes ligaments, tendons, and aponeuroses.
