Cells:

  1. Cells are the structural and functional units of the body.
  2. It is defined as the smallest unit of life that can sustain independently.

Classification of cells on the basis of number of cells:

  1. Unicellular Organism:
    • Organisms consisting of a single cell are called unicellular.
    • A single cell performs all the functions of the body like growth, movement and reproduction.
    • Examples- Amoeba, Paramecium, Euglena
  2. Multicellular Organisms:
    • Organisms with multiple number of cells are called multicellular organisms.
    • Multicellular organisms consist of many cells and therefore the cells differentiate to perform different functions.
    • Examples- Plants and Animals
