These are the group of cells that are made up of similar types of cells and have a common function and same origin.

Classification

According to the dividing capacity, Plant tissues can be classified as:

(a) Meristematic tissues

  1. Cells of these tissues constantly divide to increase their number.
  2. Their function is to divide and form cells for the growth and maintenance of plant tissues.

( b) Permanent tissues

  1. When cells of the meristematic tissues mature, they form permanent cells.
  2. These cells have lost the capacity to divide, so they do not undergo cell division.
  3. The cells of these tissues perform a specific function.
  4. Different types of permanent tissues are designed structurally to perform different types of functions.
