Weathering of rock

Open in App
Solution

The following changes were observed during the weathering of rock:

Slow change: The type of changes that occurs over a long period of time are considered slow changes.

  • Weathering of rock is a slow change because it takes place over a long period of time.
  • It does not happen too quickly because the underlying phenomena are quite complex.

Physical change: A change in which only the physical properties of any substance get changed is called a physical change.

  • During a physical change, no new substance is formed.
  • It is a physical change because it involves the disintegration of rocks.

Non-periodic change: The changes that do not occur periodically at regular intervals are known as non-periodic changes.

  • Weathering is a non-periodic change because it takes place at its own pace.
  • No specific time frame is required for it to take place.

Irreversible change: The change which cannot be reversed even by changing conditions is said to be an irreversible change.

  • Weathering is an irreversible change because once the disintegration is done, we cannot get the original form back.
