Question

Classify the giant wheel into translatory, rotatory, and oscillatory motion.

Open in App
Solution

  1. When a body moves to and fro (backward and forward) about its mean position, its motion is called oscillatory motion.
  2. A body is said to be in rotatory motion if it moves about a fixed axis without changing its position.

Hence, giant wheel will fall under the rotatory motion because it rotates about a fixed point.
