Solution
Rally for Rivers is a nationwide campaigning program launched by Isha Foundation in order to revive the rivers in our country. The campaign has been anticipated by Sadhguru of the Isha Foundation. This movement helps in revitalize India’s rapidly depleting rivers, and personally drove over 9300 km through 16 states to raise awareness about this situation. Studies have revealed that by 2030, India will have only 50% of the water that is needed for our survival and that 25% of India is changing into a desert due to lack of water and water resources. Compared to 1947, there is less than 75% of water today in the country. Most of the rivers have vanished and many dry up for most time in the year. Rally for Rivers is now focusing on rapid implementation of the solution through detailed studies and on-the-ground action in several states. To ensure that the rivers are fed by moist soil throughout the year, the campaign plans to maintain a tree cover for at least one kilometer on either side of the entire river length and of about half a kilometer for tributaries. Forest trees will be planted on government land and fruit trees on farmer’s land. Fruit trees will help to enhance the livelihood of farmers as well as improve nutritional intake among the people.
