The declaration of the rights of Man and Citizen only recognized males as citizens. Hence, the rights and liberties mentioned in that declaration only applied to males. That declaration did not recognize any rights for women.
The declaration of the rights of women and the female citizen was written by Olympe de Gouges in reaction to the failure of the official declaration to recognize women's rights. That declaration proclaimed the equality of women and proclaimed that the French revolution could be successful only when it provided for equal rights and liberties for women as men.
