Solution

Pituitary gland:

  1. The Luteinizing hormone(LH) produced by the anterior pituitary stimulates the leydig cells of the testes to produce testosterone.
  2. Testosterone helps in the development of the male reproductive organs and the development of secondary sexual characteristics like facial hair, increased muscle mass, deepened voice etc. in males.

Adrenal gland:

  1. It is also called the suprarenal glands as they are located above the kidneys.
  2. The outer region of the adrenal gland is called adrenal cortex which is followed by the adrenal medulla on the inside.
  3. The adrenal cortex produces adrenalin and nor adrenalin while the adrenal medulla produces mineralocorticoids, glucocorticoids, sex hormone corticoids etc.
  4. One of the hormones of the adrenal cortex is the adrenalin which activates the sympathetic nervous system during emergency situations thereby increasing heart rate, blood pressure, respiration rate etc.

Thyroid gland:

  1. It is located in the front portion on the neck on either sides of the trachea.
  2. It produces thyroxin and calcitonin hormones.
  3. Thyroxin regulates the basal metabolism of the body while calcitonin regulates the calcium levels in the blood.

Lacrimal gland:

  1. It is located in the eyes and produces tears.
  2. Tears contain an enzyme called lysozyme which keeps the cornea moist and also prevents bacterial infections of the eye.

Growth hormone:

  1. It is also called the somatotropin and is produced by the anterior lobe of the pituitary.
  2. It is involved in the overall growth of the body by increasing the size of bones and muscles.

Final answer: (a) Anterior pituitary gland, (b) Development of male reproductive organs and secondary sexual characteristics in males, (c)Adrenalin, (d) Increase in heart rate, blood pressure, respiration etc. (e) Thyroid gland, (f) Thyroxin, (g) tears, (h) Keeps the eye moist and prevents bacterial infections, (i) Anterior pituitary gland (j) Overall growth of bones and muscles of the body.
