The Supreme Court had scrapped the proposal of use of ‘None Of The Above’ (NOTA) option in the Rajya Sabha elections. Hence they are not used in Rajya Sabha Elections.

NOTA do not mean rejection. That may sound self-defeating to the whole point of NOTA but according to Indian democracy the rule of first past the post is declared the winner. Thus, if out of total 10,000 votes, 9999 voters elect NOTA option and just one candidate gets even a single vote, then the latter wins from that constituency.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने राज्यसभा चुनाव में नॉन ऑफ द एबव ’(NOTA) विकल्प के उपयोग के प्रस्ताव को रद्द कर दिया था। इसलिए राज्यसभा चुनाव में इनका उपयोग नहीं किया जाता है।

NOTA का मतलब अस्वीकृति नहीं है। NOTA को पूर्णता से देखने पर यह आत्म-पराजय का आभास दे सकता है ,लेकिन भारतीय लोकतंत्र के अनुसार “फर्स्ट पास्ट द पोस्ट” के तहत विजेता घोषित किया जाता है। इस प्रकार, यदि कुल 10,000 मतों में से, 9999 मतदाता NOTA विकल्प चुनते हैं और सिर्फ एक उम्मीदवार को एक ही मत प्राप्त होता है, तो वह निर्वाचन क्षेत्र से जीत जाता है।
