1. There is an upper limit on the nominal shear stress in beams (even with shear reinforcement) due to the possibility of crushing of concrete in diagonal compression.
2. A rectangular concrete slab whose length is equal to its width may not be a two-way slab for certain definable support conditions.

Solution

The correct option is C Both 1 and 2
1. As per IS 456 : 2000, Nominal shear stress
can not exceed a maximum value of shear
otherwise it will lead to brittle failure of
concrete (t = 0.45 fck).
2. One way and two way slab depends on
(IlB) ratio as well as boundary conditions,
as if a slab having l/B < 2 is supported at
two ends (opposite) then it will lead to a
one way slab.
