1. Muhammedan Literary Society was founded at Calcutta in 1863 by Nawab Abdul Latif. This society is marked as beginning in the direction of western education. It promoted discussions of religious, social and political questions.
2. In the wake of reconciliation of modern scientific thought with Islam, he first of all, declared Quran alone as the authoritative work for Islam. Even the Quaran he interpreted in the light of contemporary rationalism and science.
