Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP), also called induced abortion, is safe up to the first trimester. After that complication increase and it becomes risky for the life of the mother. It is illegal to perform MTP after determining the sex of the child as Government of India has banned sex determination.
Exclusive breastfeeding can prevent pregnancy only when 1. the periods have not yet returned after delivery and 2. the baby is less than 6 months. After that breastfeeding does not provide any protection from conception and pregnancy.
Intrauterine devices, like copper T, are effective, long-term and reversible contraceptive.
Contraception pills or oral pills are hormone based and the dose starts from day1 of the menstrual cycle for consecutive 21 days and 7 days gap after that.
