MTP and intrauterine devices like copper are helpful in preventing pregnancy. MTP/induced abortion is voluntary termination of pregnancy before full form. MTP during first trimester is generally safe. Intrauterine devices (IUD's) are inserted by doctors in the interns through the vagina, which makes the uterus unsuitable for implantation. IUD's like copper T are effective contraceptives.

Pills have to be taken daily for a period of 21 days starting preferably within the first five days of menstrual cycle. They inhibit ovulation and implantation as well as alter the quality of cervical mucus to prevent/retard entry of sperms.

Generally, chances of conception are almost nil until the mother breast-feeds the infant upto a maximum period of six months following parturition.
