Convert Ethyl bromide into Ethane?

Open in App
Solution

Reducing agent:

  • Reducing agents are known as the substance which helps a substance to get reduced by donating Hydrogen , when it itself gets oxidized.
  • Most of the reagents used in organic chemistry are used to provide Hydrogen to other substances and get them reduced.
  • Three common reducing agents used for reduction in organic chemistry are Sodium borohydride (NaBH4), Lithium aluminum hydride (LiAlH4), and Diisobutyl aluminum hydride (DIBAL-H).

Conversion of Ethyl bromide into Ethane:

  • Ethyl bromide is a primary Alkyl halide having the halide group as Bromine and the Alkyl group as Ethane.
  • The primary Alkyl halides can be reduced to alkanes by using the reducing agent Lithium aluminum hydride LiAlH4 in dry ether.
  • It is known as one type of reduction reaction used for the conversion of Ethyl bromide into Ethane, which can be given as;
    CH3CH2BrEthylBromideDryetherLiAlH4CH3CH3Ethane

Hence, the Conversion of Ethyl bromide into Ethane has been mentioned above.
