Open in App
Solution

Corpus luteum gets converted into corpus albicans in absence of fertilization as:
1. A corpus luteum is a mass of cells that forms in an ovary and is responsible for the production of the hormone progesterone during early pregnancy.
2. The luteal phase of the menstrual cycle is the time where the body prepares for implantation of a fertilized egg.
3. The role of the corpus luteum depends on whether or not fertilization occurs.
4. If there are no fertilized eggs to implant in the thickened uterine lining, the corpus luteum degenerates in 10-12 days after ovulation and forms the corpus luteum of menstruation and is eventually transformed into a white scar, the corpus albicans.
5. Formation of corpus albicans results body to shed the lining during menstrual bleeding due to low levels of estrogen and progesterone
6. Ultimately leading to the reason for the menstrual cycle to begin again.
Hence, corpus luteum gets converted into corpus albicans in absence of fertilization
