Solution

The correct option is C A - Rubeola virus, B - Varicella virus
Symptoms are physical or physiological manifestations that indicate the occurrence of a disease or a disorder. The given figures show the symptoms of two different viral diseases.

Figure A represents rashes which appear as flat red spots and are characteristic of a measles infection. Measles is an acute infection caused by the Rubeola virus which belongs to the genus Morbillivirus of the family Paramyxoviridae. The disease generally occurs in children and is characterised by fever and the appearance of flat red spots or rashes all over the body . It spreads through the inhalation of droplets of cough or sneeze of the patient.

Figure B shows the appearance of rashes with raised red bumps or papules which is characteristic of chicken pox. These bumps gradually turn into fluid-filled blisters that cause itching and eventually rupture to leak fluids. They ultimately turn into scabs. Chicken pox is caused by the Varicella Zoster virus. Common symptoms of the disease include the appearance of an itchy rash on the body which is accompanied by fever, headache, loss of appetite, etc. The virus spreads through direct contact with the infected person.

Variola virus is the causative agent for smallpox. The disease is characterised by fever, headache, body ache, appearance of early rashes which gradually developed into fluid filled pustules. Although the chicken pox and smallpox rashes look similar, they vary in their distribution in the body.

Chicken pox rashes are mostly on the stomach, chest, back, and rarely on the palms or the soles of the feet. Smallpox rashes appear mostly on the face, arms, legs and sometimes on the palms or soles. All smallpox rashes show up at the same time and look the same but chicken pox rashes show up at different times and look different from each other based on when they had appeared in the process of disease.

Rhino viruses are responsible for causing and spreading the highly contagious common cold. Frequent episodes of nasal discharge, nasal congestion, reddening of eyes and watery eyes are symptoms of common cold. Rhino viruses do not cause body rashes.
