T-cell is a type of lymphocyte that is part of cell-mediated immunity. They mature from thymocytes in the thymus. There are various types of T cells. These are effector T-cells, helper T-cells, cytotoxic T-cells, memory T-cells and suppressor T-cells. Effector T-cells respond to stimulus. Helper T-cells help in maturation of B cells and in activation of cytotoxic T-cells. Cytotoxic T-cells are also called as killer T-cells. They kill cancer cells and virus-infected cells. Memory T-cells remain in body after primary infection and shows fast and intense immune response when same pathogen appears again. Suppressor T-cells are also called as regulatory T-cells. These cells suppress autoreactive T-cells at the end of immune reaction. These cells prevent autoimmune disease.
