Is $\frac{1}{15}$ equal to $\frac{4}{30}$ ?

The given fractions $\frac{1}{15},\frac{4}{30}$ are unlike fractions because they have different denominators.

When we compare two unlike fractions, we first get their equivalent fractions with a denominator which is a common multiple of the denominators of both the fractions.

The LCM of 15 and 30 is 30.

The equivalent fractions with the same denominator are :

$\frac{1}{15}=\frac{1\times 2}{15\times 2}=\frac{2}{30}$ and $\frac{4}{30}=\frac{4\times 1}{30\times 1}=\frac{4}{30}$

Since, $\frac{2}{30}<\frac{4}{30}$

$\therefore \frac{1}{15}<\frac{4}{30}$
