Solution

(a) Intermolecular force of attraction: Particles of matter are held together by a force of attraction that exists between them. This force is known as intermolecular force of attraction. The force of attraction between particles of the same substance is known as "Cohesion". The force of attraction is different for different kinds of particles.

(b) Intermolecular space: Particles of matter have space between them which is called inter-particular or intermolecular space or gap. This is due to random motion of particles which sometimes brings them close to each other and sometimes keeps them apart.
