The rain containing excess of acids is called acid rain. Gaseous pollutants like carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide combine with the water vapour to form carbonic acid, sulphuric acid and nitric acid respectively.
Acid rain has adverse affect on both living and non-living things.

Effects of acid rain -
  • It causes respiratory issues and skin problems in animals and humans.
  • When acid rain falls down and flows into the rivers and ponds, it affects the aquatic life. Many aquatic animals die.
  • It damages the buildings and monuments made up of marbles and metals.
