The total length of the actual path followed by an object is called as distance.

The straight line (shortest) distance between two points, directed from one position to other is called as displacement of an object between those positions. SI unit to measure distance and displacement is meter (m). Distance is a scalar quantity whereas displacement is a vector quantity.
