Fission:

  1. Fission is a process by which a unicellular organism divides to form two or more daughter cells.
  2. Asexual reproduction by fission can occur by two means: binary fission and multiple fission.

Binary fission:

  1. The single cell divides into two cells.
  2. It occurs during favorable conditions in unicellular organisms like Amoeba, Paramecium, Euglena, etc.

Multiple fission:

  1. Multiple fission means dividing the parent body into several daughter organisms.
  2. In this, the parent nucleus repeatedly divides, followed by the collection of cytoplasm around each daughter nucleus forming several daughter cells.
  3. It is a standard mode of reproduction in the malarial parasite when it invades the erythrocytes of man.
