Solution

Meiosis:

  1. It is a process of cell division in which the cell undergoes two successive cell divisions.
  2. This results in the formation of four daughter cells.
  3. Each daughter cells contain half the number of chromosomes of a parent cell.
  4. This single replication includes two consecutive cell divisions, called meiosis I and meiosis II.

Sister chromatids:

  1. Sister chromatids refer to the identical copies formed by the DNA replication of chromosomes.
  2. Both copies are joined together at a point called a centromere.

Heterotypic division:

  1. The first meiotic division is otherwise called heterotypic division.
  2. During this, each chromosome replicates into two sister chromatids during interphase.
  3. This consists of four phases- Prophase-1, Metaphase-1, Anaphase-1 and Telophase-1.
  4. Crossing over is the major event of this division.
