Solution
Magnetization
The process by which a magnetic material acquires magnetic properties and starts behaving like a magnet is called magnetization.
Magnetic materials like iron, cobalt, and nickel can be magnetized by rubbing them with another magnet, touching with a magnet, or by passing an electric current.
Method of turning a piece of iron into an artificial magnet:-
Take a long iron nail.
Wrap an insulated coil of copper around it and connect the free ends of the wire to a battery through a switch.
Now bring some paper clips near the end of the nail. The clips will not be attracted to the nail.
Now switch on the power supply so that the electric current starts to pass through the wire.
Again bring the paper clips towards the nail. This time the paper clips get attracted towards the end of the nail.
Thus the nail starts behaving like a magnet and is called an electromagnet.
