  1. Anything that occupies space and has mass is called matter.
  2. Water, food, clothes, stones, plants and animals are all made up of matter since they occupy space and have mass.
  3. All the matter is made up of tiny particles called atoms and molecules.
  4. Depending upon the arrangement of particles, matter exists in three states-- Solid, Liquid and Gas.
  5. Example: Solid - wood, Liquid - water, Gas - Air.
