Nutrition is the life process by which a living organism obtains energy and nutrients required for growth, development and survival.

Parasitic mode of nutrition

It is the mode of nutrition in which an organism obtains nourishment from another organism while causing it harm. The dependent organism is called the parasite and the organism providing the food is called the host.

Examples

  1. Leech is an example of ectoparasite, which feeds on the blood of its host.
  2. Plasmodium vivax is an example of endoparasite that completes its life cycle within two hosts, mosquito and human while causing malaria in humans.
