Define pollution. What measures as an individual would you take to reduce environmental pollution?

Pollution is any undesirable change in physical, chemical or biological characteristics of air, land, water or soil. Agents that bring about such an undesirable change are known as pollutants. Pollution is of various types: air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution, soil pollution, etc.

Following are the measures as an individual we would take to reduce environmental pollution:

1. We can plant more and more trees.
2. We can use renewable energy sources such as compressed natural gas (CNG) and bio fuels.
3. We can reduce use of fossil fuels.
4. We can avoid firing crackers on Diwali.
5. We can use two kinds of dustbin for the segregation of waste.
6. We can reduce the use of plastic and polythene bags and promote using of paper or cloth bags.
7. We can avoid throwing garbage near water bodies.
