When a cut piece of desired DNA is linked to plasmid DNA, it makes a new combination of circular autonomously replicating DNA which is known as recombinant DNA. When this DNA is transferred into Escherichia coli, it could replicate using the new host’s DNA polymerase enzyme and make multiple copies. This property is known as cloning. Recombinant DNA is used in genetic engineering.
